PRINCIPAL GEOLOGIST - HYDROLOGIST
Susan Rabbitte is originally from Northern Ireland. She gained her undergraduate degree in Natural Science (Geology) from Trinity College, Dublin. This was followed by a stint as an exploration geologist in the goldfields of Western Australia, well logging and sampling.
On returning to the UK she completed a post-graduate diploma and degree in petroleum geology at Imperial College, London. Work opportunities then led to the environmental sector with 6 years of investigating brownfield redevelopment sites, with a focus on the characterisation and remediation of hydrocarbon contamination of soil and groundwater.
Moving to Hawke’s Bay in 2004 her skills expanded to meet a local need for groundwater quantity assessment. This now forms the bulk of her workload as she provides farmers, industrial/commercial operations and local councils with the science and consenting requirements to obtain and maintain their groundwater abstractions. This includes initial well / or well field location advice, aquifer pump test planning, data analysis, on-going monitoring and reporting.
She also maintains interest and involvement in the environmental sector with regular contaminated land site investigation and remediation projects. This environmental work dovetails nicely with the groundwater investigation work as the aquifers are potential receiving environments.
