KEY PROJECT: PRECAST

Mangahauini Gorge recovery:
a unique collaboration.

In a unique collaboration with Transport Rebuild East Coast (TREC), Lattey Group supplied Hanbar units for a major recovery project in the Mangahauini Gorge.

Hanbar units are heavy concrete armour units made from high-density concrete. Their specific design, size and placement are crucial for structural integrity and longevity.

1,310 of these specially shaped concrete blocks, ranging from five to ten tonnes, will form a ‘roughened channel’ believed to be the first of its kind in a New Zealand river, and designed to stabilise and contain the river through its steepest and most destructive section.

To meet the tight programme, all units are being produced in our purpose-built indoor precast facility in Hastings. With overhead gantry cranes and efficient mould cycling, we’re achieving up to two pours per day per mould, maximising output while maintaining quality.

Our precast team has been working on other technically challenging projects:

Precast panels for St Pierres Sushi drive-through.

After 17 months in development, the new St Pierres Sushi drive-through has officially opened in Stortford Lodge Hastings, on a site left vacant since Caltex departed in 2017. This marks only the second drive-through sushi restaurant in New Zealand.

In collaboration with Stead Construction, Lattey Group manufactured and installed 28 precast panels for the main building and three adjoining office-retail spaces. The site’s location on a busy intersection required precision planning that saw the project delivered on time and on budget.

Bayleys Real Estate – Havelock North gateway

On the other side of town, we partnered again with Stead Construction and Wallace Development to deliver the new Bayleys Real Estate office, a prominent corner site at the gateway to Havelock North.

Our precast and crane teams navigated tight access and high traffic volumes to complete another successful build, showcasing our ability to deliver under pressure.
