Sheet Piling:

Highly Versatile Retention Systems

LATTEY GROUP - SCREW PILING DESIGN AND INSTALLATION

All you need to know about sheet piling

Sheet piles are sections of sheet material that interlock with each other. They are driven into the ground to provide earth retention such as in land reclamation projects, underground structures, retaining walls, temporary design works and on coastal or river sites. Sheet piles are a versatile solution to a large number of requirements, although the type of sheet pile to be used depends on various factors such as:

  • site conditions

  • structure involved

  • protection needed

  • required depth and ground conditions

  • load demands and bending moments involved

  • whether they are a permanent or temporary structure

Sheet piling is especially useful in confined spaces where they provide protection against cave-ins as well as water retention and dewatering sites. As a permanent feature, they add to the stability and durability of interior walls, while offering protection against flooding and other water damage.

The most common materials for sheet piles are steel. Steel its interlocking system “clutched” it is used more often in temporary solutions. Steel piles offer great resistance against driving stresses, have good water-tightness.

When it comes to installation, sheet piling requires a certain expertise and careful monitoring from the initial piles inspection and throughout the driving process. Any obstacles need to be removed prior to installation (and sometimes while driving is taking place). Sheet piles have many advantages, including:

  • being recyclable and reusable

  • their versatility

  • their light-weightedness

  • being adaptable in length and design

  • requiring little to no maintenance during their lifespan

With 20 years experience in sheet piling, Lattey Civil is able to provide expert services, both in design and installation/removal of sheet piles.
